TORONTO – Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX:SLF) says it wont comment on British media reports it plans to sell its UK insurance business just months after it scaled down its US division as it works to streamline operations.
Londons Financial Times has reported that the third-largest Canadian insurer plans to enlist Morgan Stanley to advise it on a possible sale of the century-old UK business.
But Sun Life spokesman Frank Switzer said Wednesday the company does not comment on rumours or speculation.
That didnt stop Canadian analysts from weighing in on what a potential sale could mean for the company.

A survivalist accused of shooting his wife, daughter and the family pets to death before setting his home on fire is on the loose in the Pacific Northwest.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in North Bend, Wash., around 8:30 am on Sunday, according to the Seattle Times. They found the bodies of Lynnettee and Kaylene Keller in their beds.
Peter Keller, while still at-large, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder on Wednesday. He was also charged with arson for trying to cover up the killings, according to the newspaper.

BEIRUT: Speaker Nabih Berri said Wednesday media reports of extremist groups plotting to assassinate senior politicians in the country should be taken seriously and require vigilance.
Lawmakers attending Berris weekly meeting at his residence in Ain al-Tineh quoted the speaker as saying that reports that several leaders and politicians are the targets of assassination plots by extremist parties require follow-up and vigilance.
